Welcome to the project
Welcome to the new look "Don't Underestimate" project, it shows how mental health affects hidden differences the challenges and how to approach the situation is not the same for everyone.
History & Background
This project on the Plus Value Awareness website since 2018 for World Mental Health Day. It project was aimed to challenge conventional viewpoints when hidden differences face mental health and discourage generalisation.
This includes the language and remarks we use such as behaviour, mental Toughness and mental medications.
How Mental health affect people with hidden differences is not the same and cannot approach and respond to everyone the same.
Since then, an annual online special has been made for supporting World Mental Health Awareness Week in May and World Mental Health Day in October.
From 2021 onwards, a collection of original blog articles have been made, addressing different issues & factors of mental health.
In May 2024, this project was redesigned and recived a makeover ( five & a half years since the project was launched).
Hidden Differences and mental health is important too
There is a greater knowledge & understanding of mental health affecting different members of society including young people, celebrities, Public figures, sports athletes, parents, armed forces & workers in certain professions.
It is very important to recognise that mental health can affect independent people with hidden differences too.
Regardless of whether a person lives with Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Social Anxiety and other similar conditions, they do live with limitations of specific abilities and coping mechanisms which is not obvious to notice.
Mental Health can compromise their ability to function, especially when they are psychologically & emotionally compromised along with their negative experiences are excessive & been forced not to share.
This project will highlight examples of how mental health can cause an effect and how approaching the matter along with highlighting the human aspect as the more sustainable way for positive solutions forward
This project is planned to be developed into information guides for the general public, invisible difficulties along with detailed documents and PowerPoint presentations.
