Autistic Spectrum edition

A special version of a project on how individuals with Autism can be a positive advantage for everyone

Individuals who live with a moderate or hidden level of Autism (including High-Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome) have many positive qualities which is beneficial for everyone regardless of the difficulties they may live with.

Here are some examples of strengths and atrributes

Learning & expanding abilities

If an autistic person is resourced and have their personal development system and have their adjustment space, they can learn and excel in subjects, topics or particular skills & abilities. However, this must be progressed without pressure or to make any character reactions related to lack of tolerance or patience. Also, it is important to avoid any types of unhelpful interaction towards them including overloading comments and excessive criticism. Remember they may have different learning & ability speeds based on their difficulties and strengths.

Independent identity

Some people with autism concerns less about what others think too much about them and be more independent in how they think. (It does not mean they are inconsiderate or selfish.) The independent identity & mindset can bring additional angles or particular issues or topics which nobody has imagined or think about. This can be beneficial when it comes to situations such as community groups, public forums, consultations also with strategic and major planning. This ranges from planned changes to services, products or any changes affecting communities and particular locations

Interactions & relationships

Some people may communicate very direct than the average person, however, they can be very loyal and honest. Can be non-judgemental when listening to others, however, they must not be misguided. They will not tolerate or trust anyone who uses their non-judgemental listening to be exploited or taken advantage of.

They tend to not have any hidden agendas. When the person is very self-aware they don’t live to break rules or to lie to others. They will sense someone who will be problematic or a threat which can be uneasily disbelieved get unfairly blamed as an overreaction.

Mind

They tend to learn and to think visually such as location, items, pictures, videos & past experiences. Despite their difficulties, their intelligence levels can be average and above the standard expectation. When resourced and with preparation in advance they can be very focused while undertaking particular tasks or specific situations and occasions.

Skills, abilities and during action task.

Depending on transferable skills & knowledge, they can have a strong amount knowledge with different subjects or topics for examples History, Art, Design & Politics. They may be very passionate. It is important not to get confused with wrongly misinterpret such as obsessions.

They can have detailed knowledge and expertise of a particular subject for topics due to deep study. This means they can be extremely resourceful. When focused they can have high attention to detail. Also, when it comes to decision making, they can be logical and in some cases methodical.

Many autistic people are ambitious and use their strengths and attributes can able to be beneficial in communities, relationships in environments for Employment, Volunteering and in education
Enhanced motivation
Strong dedication
Forward-thinking possibilities
Determination

To enable an autistic person to be beneficial in society, it is very important to improve representation and not misinterpret

Good intentions
Changing attitudes
Seeing beyond perceptions

Beyond their ambitions, an autistic person also has a strong sense of purpose to make a positive difference to others and society.

Through their experiences and insight, an autistic person can provide forward-thinking ideas and solutions.

However, this can be only possible if everyone considers the following factors:
Patience,
Welcoming,
Accommodating,
Having an open mind,
Less perceptive and presumptions,
Not to discriminate and respect their sense of value.

To make sure an autistic person continues to be a positive benefit to others and society as a whole then we must value a person with differences.

Several factors must be practised including:
Appreciation

Avoid being perceptive

Not to make shaming or make disrespectful attitudes (including discrimination and hatred)

Be patient and supportive of an autistic person and speak up for them. This means not tolerating disrespectful or prejudiced attitudes. Also not make any unrealstic expectations or pressures.

Take an autistic person seriously

Not to make disruptive attitudes such as jealousy, resentment, trivial or cynical.

Summary

Not to confuse a person strengths with obsessions. Instead distinguish a person with high strengths on skills, abilities or particular subject or topics from others and show more interest regular if their have an over target or achievement they want to accomplish but never turn it into a challenging tone.

The strengths of an autistic person are varying from person to person.

Takes time out to really understand their strengths and how it can be beneficial for everyone.

Never use their difficulties as an excuse to undermine their strengths.

Never lecture an autistic person with the balance on the strengths they may have against on any ability, skills or qualities they may lack. Instead, give them tips and signpost them how to bridge any gap of abilities to potential strengths without any pressure.
