New colour changes related to autistic sprectrum only information & features

Recently this awareness initiative has developed a special online feature to support a number of specific events related to the autistic spectrum. 

To distinguish information specifically for each condition, it was presented with a colour coding system. 
(For example yellow for dyslexia, magenta for dyspraxia, dark blue for ADHD and grey and yellow for social anxiety). 

Until recently, light to mid-blue was used for the spectrum online and on social media.

However many people living with autistic spectrum do find the use of blue for the autistic spectrum very offensive. This is partly because of the "Light it blue campaign" by Autism Speaks which occurs every April during World Autism Awareness Day. The campaign can cause a great deal of distress, offence and anxiety with many people. Also the use of blue colour can be seen as demeaning to many autistic individuals as the campaigns using blue focus only on the medical aspects.

After the increasing amount of negative comments against the use of blue and the stigma it has caused, this awareness initiative had to make some changes to reduce the stigma and to be on the side of autistic people.

You will start to notice new changes to the colour palette with Focus content related to the autistic spectrum. From now on we are starting to add the colours turquoise and yellow as the main colours and the use of blue will be dramatically reduced.


The new colour changes began started to appear on the autism awareness special during April and June and the number of autism awareness events. ( including world autism awareness day, world autism awareness month, autism acceptance day and month and autistic pride day)

The new colours are also added to the online feature Understanding Series related to the Autistic Sprectrum and Autism Focus the element of Awareness Focus.

The new colours is now apperaing on the autism version of the projects "Advantage" and "Achievers"
 

More to come
It will take a period of time before all of the other autism specific featured, projects and other statues templates on social media. It will take even longer to remove the blue colour completely


This awareness initiative undertands the frustation when blue is predominantly used for the autistic sprectrum. I hope the new changes will be comfortable for autistic people to view the web pages online content and social media status templates.
