Plus Value Awareness statement
by Project Director Keith McKenzie

We need to see the autistic spectrum beyond the medical aspects, typecasts or perceptions. With so many positive achievers, role models and participants, their voices have to be heard and play an important part of a better Society. However, many people of the spectrum have been left behind due to ignorance, prejudice and intolerance.

We must change our attitudes and assumptions towards an autistic person.
Acceptance is a starting point for an autistic person in society but it must include the five points associated with a better sense of value including dignity, integration & inclusion, participation, well presented along with responsibility and adjustments.

Event Information

Autism Acceptance Day
Takes place on the same day as World Autism Awareness Day (April 2nd). The event was originally created in 2011 by Paula Durbin Westby and is Supported by the Washington D.C based organisation Autistic Self-Acceptance Advocacy Network. This is promoted by organisations in the United States & around the world. This event is to challenge the conventions of autism awareness.

Autism Acceptance Month
This event is an expansion to Autism Acceptance Day, This is promoted by organisations in the United States & around the world. This event is to challenge the conventions of autism awareness.

Many people of the autistic spectrum appreciate this event compared to the similar events during the same timescale due to the fact that it focuses more on acceptance and the human aspects

In recent years, both events have not been updated. This means there are no current campaigns or an official website. However, many organisations, projects and groups from around the world continue to promote Autistic Acceptance during April in the communities, online & on social media.

Plus Value Awareness will continue to promote autistic acceptance during April
