This year's theme is Mental health care for all: let's make it a reality.
Support statement from Keith Mckenzie, Project Director
Regardless of the hidden differences, a person lives with, everyone should be able to access Mental Health without boundaries and rejection.
Through my observations, if you live with autism in specific places you are automatically rejected to access the same level of mental health services which the rest of society receives. So we have a long way to go to make them a reality.
A person with differences can be taken less seriously when going through mental health simply because they appear very articulate and intelligent.
Sadly any issues that get ignored or underestimated can lead to damaging consequences
The way forward is to have patience and looking out for each other and more importantly listen and value what has been shared without critical judgement
Avoid making idealistic guidance or expectation which is unhelpful for them. Instead, show support with empathy and patience.
One small step can make a big difference
